From Bottom of the Barrel to BB Sound
Systems
Bottom of the Barrel Sound Systems began a little over 20 years ago.  At that time
Bottom of the Barrel had no formal advertising.  All weddings and events were booked
by guests who attended events where BB Sound was playing, or by word of mouth.  For
this reason, all clients already had an idea of the quality of service they were going to be
receiving, so having a joke for a name was not a big issue. (In fact it helped us to stand
out due to the uniqueness.)  As Bottom of the Barrel Sound Systems evolved and began
advertising on the Internet, it became clear that the name Bottom of the Barrel would be
lost on potential clients who had not already experienced our service.  For the sake of
advertising, the name BB Sound Systems is now used more commonly.
Important questions for picking a DJ
Is the DJ you are hiring really a DJ?

This may seem like a silly question, but numerous companies who advertise on the
interne
t are booking agencies and not actual disc jockeys.

What does this mean?

Many booking agencies advertise themselves as a disc jockey service while all they are
doing is subcontracting.  They book a customer, and then they find a DJ who will do the
work.  The booking agency keeps a portion of the money.  (In many cases they keep
over half of the money that they charge.)  The problem with this is the company is
basically making pure profit by doing exactly what the customer is trying to do: search
for a dj, then hire them.  The scariest part is these companies do very little research on
the djs they get to fill these jobs.  They are tricking the customer into thinking they are
getting a dj who is worth the amount they paid, when in reality the customer is getting
the dj that was willing to do the work for the amount the agency was offering.

How can I avoid this?

Before booking with a dj or company ask "Do you subcontract?"  Get the facts.  Are they
an independent dj?  Are they a company with a team of djs?  Is the person you are
talking to on the phone going to be the one at your event?
How do the above questions apply to BB Sound
Systems?

BB Sound is an independently owned service-  The person (Brad) you talk to on the
phone or over email will be at your event.  An advantage to being independently
owned is it allows for better communication and planning of your event, as opposed
to a company with a team of djs, where you speak to a receptionist on the phone.
(Not to say that large dj companies are necessarily bad.  Some are very good.)
BB Sound usually brings two djs to wedding receptions.
